Christmas is just around the corner, so we have made a list of things, we think, would make a great gift for your travel loving friends and family!
We personally try our very best to be as minimalist as possible, its one of the many reasons we chose this lifestyle, because it was an opportunity to downsize our belongings and forces us to stay that way. Therefore, we have to be very conscious consumers and consider every purchase we make. We really don’t have the room, either physically or mentally, to cart around a lot of clutter. If we don’t absolutely love it or need it then we don’t buy it or keep it. Obviously there’s a bit of trial and error with that, and sometimes we buy something that doesn’t work out the way we anticipated, but we do give it extra thought when we need something new.
That is why buying gifts for anyone who has chosen a minimalist lifestyle, but especially travellers can be so tricky. Below is our very carefully thought-out list of things, we believe, will either make your life easier or better on the road. They are super practical or lots of fun and bonus, most of them are sourced from small Australian owned businesses, which we love to support when we are not op shopping.

A travel journal. We like My Big Adventure travel journals, see our tried and tested page for more info & discount codes.
To compliment the travel journal we think a polaroid camera, or a mini photo printer would be an awesome addition. Kids can print their photos out to stick in their journals or decorate their bunks, with mementos of the friends they have made along the way.

Travel games. Our favourites so far are Spot It, Chess, Uno, Jenga and plain old card games. Let us know in the comments what is your favourite family games to play?
Fidgets and rubics cubes would be good for long car journeys.
Swimmers and hats are always a welcome necessity. They don’t last long when you’re in them every day, even the expensive ones!
Snorkels and fins come in handy with all the beautiful reefs to visit around Australia.
An audio book subscription would be great for entertaining young minds on long travel days. Something like Audible or Spotify as we often download podcasts to listen to on the road.

We love our vinyl map of Australia decal to keep track of our trip and it’s a wonderful learning tool for the kids.
Watches are a great way to give the kids a little more freedom, responsibility, and independence, plus they get to practice telling the time. For younger kids we love the Garmin junior as it doesn’t need to be recharged and is completely waterproof. For older kids we like the space talk adventurer GPS phone watch.
An Ikea lap table for travel days or when out to a meal. It can fit pens and pencils, as well as a couple of books and a pack or cards. One of these decked out with fun stationary and a travel journal would be a very thoughtful gift!
Vouchers for fun experiences and tours eg cinema and bowling etc.
If you’re into practical gift giving like I am, these next suggestions would be fab for the whole family.
Good Riddance mozzie repellent. Smells great, keeps the mozzies away and is safe for the whole family. See our tried and tested page for more.

Beach and Bath Travel Towels, we’ve tried a few, see tried and tested page for the ones we recommend and a cheeky discount.
Pegless clothesline, we use this all the time, we even took it to Indo with us. It’s handy for extra hanging space and not having to root around for pegs.

Macrame fruit hammock and hat hangers are practical space savers and look stylish in the van. My girls make them here if you would like to support their little business.
