Do you want to travel with your kids, but you are worried about pulling them out of mainstream education?

Are you confused about all the different schooling philosophies and options? Distance education, homeschool, unschool, world school, road school, online learning, curriculums, and reporting! The options seem endless and overwhelming and then there is the complication of different rules and legalities in each state…

We were too! Initially I did not want the headache and the weighty responsibility of educating the children all to be on our shoulders as parents. So, for the first 12 months we did school of the air, which is a type of distance education in Australia! It was a good way for us to ease into homeschooling and out of mainstream. It helped us gain the confidence to tutor our children ourselves, however, it took up a lot of our precious time and created an awful lot of road school resistance in the kids.

We found that we were just ticking boxes and the children were not engaged in the learning because it was not relevant to them and their interests or our travel experience at all. It did not consider their little personalities and learning styles, nor did it allow space for self-directed, organic learning.

As the parents/home tutor we spent too much time understanding what was required for each activity and not enough time learning together. We also felt that the curriculum was racing ahead with irrelevant content, while not spending enough time mastering the basic, fundamental life skills we all need and use, such as money, time, basic mental arithmetic, punctuation, and grammar etc.

With the eldest approaching high school I set about finding a better option for the children so we could continue our travels and I nearly broke my brain sifting through all the different homeschool options and curriculums, none of which seemed to fit our unique needs as a traveling family and seemed super generic and basic. When I found Traveling Kids Academy  (TKA) it was as if the founder had read my mind and created exactly what I was looking for.

TKA has harnessed the unique opportunity we have as traveling families to learn with our kids, inspired by our experiences and surroundings. They encourage you to hand the power back to your children, to self-direct and craft their own curriculum based on their unique learning style, personal interests, and travel experiences.

They have in-depth knowledge of the technicalities and legalities in each Australian state regarding homeschooling and they will get to know your child and create an individualized curriculum just for them.

Since we have adopted this style of learning the kids are more engaged and we have reduced our ‘road school resistance’ almost entirely. We are not wasting anymore time stuck in the van with our heads in books arguing about getting the work done! Now we sometimes even have to enforce them to take breaks from their learning tasks.

If your keen to find out more and if they are a good fit for you, either send me a message and I am happy to answer any questions I can or head to the website and get stuck into the free content. And, if you are ready to jump in you can use my code ‘VICTORIA’ for a 10% discount!!

Educating the kids on the road can be a real pain…but it does not have to be! It can be fun and exciting for the whole family!!
