Inspiration, Planning & More

WESTERN AUSTRALIA
WA is extremely popular with traveling families, and we know why! The wide-open spaces, magnificent coastline, spectacular sunsets, and pristine beaches. It would seem WA is no longer Australia’s best kept secret.
We spent 14 years in WA and although we haven’t travelled the whole of WA we have done a great deal of it over many years and these are our favourite spots that we think no trip to WA would be complete without a visit!
📍 Esperance and surrounds
📍 Denmark
📍 Augusta
📍 Yallingup, Dunsborough & the Margaret river region
📍 Kalbarri
📍 Exmouth, Coral bay & the Ningaloo reef
📍 Karijini national park
📍 Broome
📍 Cape Leveque & the Dampier Peninsula
HOT TIPS

SOUTH AUSTRALIA
SA was our dark horse! We really did not know what to expect simply because we just didn’t know much about it and because of this we had not planned to spend a lot of time there. The friendly locals, amazing free camps, beautiful beaches, and delicious and cheap seafood impressed us. Here are our highlights.
Bunda Cliffs free camp feels like your camped up on the edge of the world.
Streaky bay had a cool vibe and lovely beaches.
Coffin bay was our first ever try of oysters because only the best will do!
Port Lincoln for fish and chips
Tumby bay stole our hearts with their street art.
Greenock and the Barossa valley… wine, beer, and chocolate… need I say more.
Hahndorf and the Adelaide hills for even more beer, wine, and chocolate
Coober Pedy and the breakaways was like stepping on to mars.
HOT TIP
Greenock was a perfect base for the Barossa valley and only $5 a night. Bonus the best brewery in the Barossa is walking distance.

NORTHERN TERRITORY
Wow, the NT and the top end is something else. If you’re not won over by the unique Aussie charm here, then you’re a tough cookie to please. It really does not get much more Aussie than this and the laid back, ‘she’ll be right’ attitude is very alluring. If you hate rules and Karen’s, love the heat, and don’t mind swimming with a few freshies then the NT might just be for you. Here is our top end, top ten.
I was more impressed with Uluru than I expected to be. Seeing it in the flesh was captivating.
I was even more impressed with king’s canyon unbelievably. Get your hiking boots on and do the rim walk.
Alice springs is not everyone’s cup of tea, but we quite liked it. There was plenty to see and do here.
Devil’s marbles were another interesting rock outcrop, but it was also a good free camp.
Daly Waters Pub… I mean if you don’t know about this place then you might just have been living under a rock.
Mataranka and bitter springs. We preferred Mataranka as bitter springs gave me croc vibes.
Katherine is another controversial one, but we loved it. Stay at Manbulloo station and feed the cattle.
Litchfield Park, be brave and swim with a few more freshies.
Kakadu national park and Cahills crossing.
HOT TIP
Head up early in the dry season and beat the crowds. June & July are pleasant and august is the busiest month.
Listen to this podcast driving through the NT and then visit Larrimah’s pink pub. The tiny town with a big mystery!

THAILAND, CAMBODIA & VIETNAM
This is your Travel Tip description. Write a short blurb explaining what the tip is and why it matters for visitors. It’s a great place to highlight stories or useful resources for visitors. Choose a great photo or video for extra engagement!

INDONESIA
There is so much more to Indonesia than Bali! We have been to Bali many times, but we never really had the time to venture far from the usual hot spots. This time around it was nice to see another side of the Islands of the Gods, as well as get off the tiny tourist island and explore Lombok and the Gili Islands too. We found it so easy and pleasurable to travel in Indonesia and easy on a budget too, we will be heading back to see more of the lesser-known Indonesian islands. Here’s our trip highlights.
-
Snorkelling the Gili Islands
-
Kuta Lombok and surfing at Selong Belanak
-
Sunrises, sunsets and snorkelling at Amed.
-
Riding around Nusa Lembongan’s winding old streets
-
Get away from it all in Sumberkima and Pemuteran in the north of Bali.
-
Snorkelling at Menjangan island in West Bali National Park
HOT TIP
-
Travel with carry on only, it will save you time and money.
-
Stock up on Entrostop at the Indomart as soon as you get there and pop them in your purse. They work well when you take them as soon as you feel a rumble 😉
-
Get an idea of prices online then negotiate with locals!
